On this tour most of the walk is downhill, not up-hill! And, you will stroll by a picture book mountain lake!
From the starting point at the top of the Graukogel cable car (1,950 m), you follow the Alpenverein path towards Hüttenkogel and then head for Palfnersee lake (2,074 m). After about 150 of climbing, you reach the highest point of the walk at the Palfnerscharte ridge (2,321 m). After crossing the Palfnerscharte ridge you head downhill to the Reedsee lake, one of the most beautiful mountain lakes we have ever seen. Then you walk through the mountain forest down a long and very steep path. Back in the Kötschachtal valley you keep heading downhill until you reach the green tree (Grünen Baum).
Refreshment stops on this route are at the Graukogel cable car station, the Himmelwandhütte (mountain hut) in the Kötschachtal valley and at the Reiterbauer hotel.
